Mill Creek

Vineyards and Winery Established 1974

Welcome to Mill Creek Vineyards and Winery. We are a small, family owned and operated winery located in the southern end of the Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County Three generations of the Kreck family have been involved in the winemaking process from the vineyards to the cellar and out into the marketplace. We invite you to try our award winning wines and experience a taste of why we have made this area our home.

Mill Creek wines have won many of the most prestigious awards possible including the Sonoma County Harvest Fair's coveted Sweepstakes Award, the California State Fair's Best Wine in the State award, and Orange County Fair's Four Star Gold as well as dozens of Best of Class awards and hundreds of Gold medals.

Conceived in 1965 when the family moved into the area and planted grapes, the winery was not actually born until nine years later with the first production of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Two years later we completed transforming an existing farming structure into a state of the art winery. In 1982, Mill Creek built its tasting room modeled after one of the many Wood Mills that were popular in the area around the turn of the century.

Seven members of the Kreck family currently work on the Mill Creek property. Bob and Elizabeth Kreck and their son Matt farm fifty-five acres of grapes. Bill and Yvonne Kreck, with their sons Brian and Jeremy, take the grapes and produce world-class wines for distribution throughout the United States.

On this single property, you can visit a place that completes the entire process of growing grapes through selling wine. Unlike some properties where they purchase most of the fruit, or even make the wine off-site, Mill Creek is the complete package where one can experience the creation of excellent varietal wines from start to finish.

AND WE ARE OFF - - - AND PICKING!

Friday, August 29, 2008 we started harvest by picking the young-block Sauvignon Blanc. This was exactly one week later than the same block last year. With great numbers, Jeremy is a happy winemaker! Next came the old block of Sauvignon Blanc this morning. The Gewurztraminer will follow in a few days. For you lovers of Gewurztraminer – get the 2008 early, because it is another very short crop. Gewurztraminer is one of those grape varieties that is not reliable in set from year to year. Many varieties, most in fact, seem to be light this year. However, often these years light in fruit are the best in quality. 2008 is still a guesstimate, but so far, it looks like a real winner!

If you want to actually see harvest, come soon. The work in the winery will be persistent until at least Thanksgiving, but the grapes may all be picked by the first of October.
